Beginning her journey as a graduate of the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in 1987, Michele laid the foundation for her career in nursing. She then pursued further academic qualifications, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Slippery Rock University in 1989. This was followed by a Master of Science in Nursing (Clinical Nurse Specialist) from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004, and she completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2015.
Michele's academic journey, from her initial nursing education to her attainment of a DNP, emphasizes her dedication to advancing her knowledge and the broader field of healthcare education. Her focus on healthcare simulation debriefing and curricular design highlights a commitment to evidence-based practices and continuous improvement in educational methodologies. Michele's expertise directly applies to her current role as the Quality and Education Program Manager for Duke Life Flight, where she oversees the onboarding, orientation, and training of the Team. She collaborates with senior clinical staff and medical directors in integrating simulation-based education into clinical experiences and training programs, ensuring comprehensive and effective training.
Active involvement in professional organizations such as the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association demonstrates Michele's dedication to staying at the forefront of her field. Through her contributions to various committees, she shares her expertise and helps shape the future direction of simulation-based education, accreditation, and certification standards.
