Christina Shelton BSN, CCRN, CEN, NR-P, CMTE is the Education and Outreach Coordinator for Duke Life Flight and has been a valued member of the transport team for 18 years. As a critical care transport registered nurse, Christina has held various positions within Life flight including staff nurse, Clinical Team Lead, and Nurse Manager of Operations for the Smithfield and Durham bases.
Christina began her career in Emergency Services as a Nationally Registered Paramedic with her Associate degree in Applied Science-Emergency Medicine from Sandhills Community College (1993). Christina advanced her education as a registered nurse and holds an Associate and bachelor's in nursing, Winston Salem State University (2003). She transitioned to Nursing in 2000 as a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Nurse while remaining part time as a Paramedic and in 2005 joined Duke Life Flight as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her career, Christina has focused on quality education for the team and outreach educational opportunities with their EMS partners in North Carolina.
In addition to being a registered nurse, Christina is also a Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE), Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) and a Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program (CCEMTP). She has been a North Carolina Level II Paramedic Instructor with the Office of Emergency Medical Services since 2009 and holds certifications in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) and Emergency Nursing (CEN).
