Medical Director (retired)
CareFlight Air and Mobile Services / Premier Health
Dayton, Ohio, United States
Andrew C. Hawk, MD, FACEP is the recently retired long-standing Medical Director of CareFlight Air & Mobile Services in Dayton, OH - a 4 rotor wing aircraft and 5 MICU ground critical care transport program. From a beginning in EMS at 18 years-old, and continuing to the present - including a stint as a flight physician at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis - Dr. Hawk has always focused on patient care. His Medical Director responsibilities at CareFlight included protocol development and maintenance, overseeing the daily clinical care provided by the flight nurses and critical care paramedics, and reviewing 100% of patient transport charts. His passion continues to be teaching and education. From the concept of bottom-up initial patient evaluation and intervention ("basics save lives") to real-time clinical applications that work (re: his "PALS: At All Times" concept), Dr. Hawk strives to ensure that the bedside critical care provider is well-prepared for the task at hand, whether it is 3 pm or 3 am, today, tomorrow, or a month from now.
