US News and World Report each year comes out with an anticipated list of the Best Hospitals in America. These rankings are based on patient outcomes and other factors. There is no process available to rank the best transport programs in the U.S. For most transport programs the ability to obtain outcome data has been a challenge. Therefore, we can use other measures to assess excellence in clinical quality. The Institute of Healthcare Improvement released a white paper on the Whole System Quality Measure. Life Link III modified this concept to specifically address overall clinical performance. This lecture explores the use of an overall clinical score or Q score to evaluate the clinical performance of a transport program. This score serves as an additional tool for clinical leaders to monitor the most important aspects of the care we deliver.
Learning Objectives:
State the value of an overall clinical quality score to the performance of the transport team.
State the pitfalls of establishing an overall clinical score to measure quality.
State specific examples of a clinical metric used to establish a score.
