Patients with ARDS are not only very complicated to manage in the pre-hospital setting but they also require extensive resources. It is imperative that the paramedic is able to recognize the signs and symptoms consistent with ARDS and the importance of aggressive and appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of these critically ill patients. This lecture will discuss classifications of ARDS, pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of ARDS, as well as clinical pearls for the transport of patients with ARDS.
Learning Objectives:
Define ARDS and its classification
Discuss the most up-to-date and cutting edge treatments for patients with ARDS
Recognize important clinical pearls for patients with decompensated "crashing" ARDS
